Grasshopper Sparrow Habitat Management Volunteer Day
April 15 @ 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

We are looking for volunteers to remove invasive plants from Roberts Property Park to make it more suitable for Grasshopper Sparrows!
Grasshopper Sparrows are a state-endangered grassland bird that has been in serious decline ever since Connecticut’s forests have started to grow back. There is a known population at Roberts Property Park in Bristol, but their habitat there is in danger of being overrun with shrubs and invasive plants. ELCCT worked with the City of Bristol and volunteers last year to begin managing the park for Grasshopper Sparrows. Our efforts have already yielded a small success: a new male Grasshopper Sparrow was found singing within the managed area showing the area has become more attractive to the sparrows! We wish to continue this important work and expand the management area this year. Will you join us?
