Outreach Programs

Programs at Your School

Give your classroom a one of a kind experience! Experienced educators from ELCCT offer over a dozen hands-on and experiential programs, right in your classroom, for students in pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. All programs align with Connecticut Core Standards, including Next Generation Science Standards. Outreach programming is a tremendous resources and serves to supplement your existing lessons!

All programs are adaptable to any grade level. If there is a particular program that you are interested in that is listed for a different grade level, please call to discuss options.

Please find a complete guide to both Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten to 5th Grade program descriptions, which you can download, below. Each guide is complete with a description and information regarding aligned standards, duration of time, max number of students, and cost.

Apples & Cider
What do apples need to grow? Are all apples the same? Students will investigate these questions and more. During the program students will taste a variety of apples, learn the history of the apples and press and sample fresh apple cider. (September and October Only) Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd
Exploring the Animal Kingdom
What makes a bird a bird? Do mammals lay eggs? Do frogs have hair? During this hands-on and interactive program, students will see a variety of reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds to learn about their similarities, differences, and adaptations that help them survive. This program gives students the unique opportunity to view live animals and animal mounts up close. Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd
Fabulous Frogs
Students will discover the diversity of frogs and toads in Connecticut by meeting a variety of live frogs and toads. Compare and contrast different species of frogs and toads to see what makes each one unique. Students will learn about the life cycle of frogs from an egg to adult. Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd
First American Visit
Students will discover the tools, the foods, and the culture of Connecticut’s early Native Americans. Hands-on examination of reproduction artifacts and storytelling will bring to life the ways of our first native inhabitants. Presentation is adapted to the grade level for which it is scheduled. Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
Terrific Turtles
Students will discover the diversity of turtles in Connecticut by meeting and touching a variety of live specimens. Compare and contrast different species of turtles to see what makes each one unique. Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd
Hibernation & Migration
When the weather turns cold why do some animals hibernate, while others migrate, and others go on with life as usual? Observations of live and mounted animals will guide the students through an exploration of the secrets of winter survival. Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st,2nd, 3rd, 4th
Reptiles & Amphibians
What is an amphibian? What is a reptile? Using a variety of live animals students will discover the answers to these questions by observing the animals to figure out the similarities and differences between reptiles and amphibians. Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Turkey Time
Have a Tom and a Hen Turkey visit your classroom. Get up close and observe the similarities and differences between the Tom and Hen by watching their display behaviors and listening to the different sounds that turkeys make. Students will have an opportunity to touch the turkeys and learn about snoods, beards and caruncles. Grades: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd
First American Experience
Experience a Native American visit in the classroom. Students will discover the tools, the foods, and the culture of Connecticut’s early Native Americans.
