Ages 12 + (all children must be accompanied by a paying adult)
This Primitive Fire Workshop explores humanity’s ancient relationship with fire, tracing its role in survival, culture, and daily life for early humans. Students begin with a brief discussion on the history of fire-making and how mastering fire fundamentally shaped human evolution, movement, and connection to the natural world.
Participants then head into the forest to craft their own bow drill fire set using natural materials. Instruction focuses on wood selection, tool preparation, body mechanics, and developing proper technique. Students will practice the ancient skill of fire by friction, learning patience, rhythm, and efficiency—key traits required for successful primitive fire craft.
This hands-on workshop emphasizes self-reliance, respect for fire, and an understanding of fire as a living tool rather than a modern convenience. Instruction is experiential and supportive, giving students a deeper appreciation for the skill, effort, and knowledge early humans relied upon to survive.
